Pre and Post Laser Treatment Guidelines

Important Notes

Most of our clients undertake a course of six to eight treatments to achieve optimal results (permanent hair reduction of 70% or greater).
1. Permanent hair reduction may not be achieved by all clients. The vast majority of these clients are females with fine facial hair or members of both sexes experiencing varying levels of hormonal activity such as puberty, pregnancy or menopause.
2. From our experience clients who start treatments under the age of 25 may need additional treatments. This is due to the fact that hair growth has not fully developed due to changing hormonal levels.
3. Females with hormonal imbalances or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome are recommended to consult an Endocrinologist for evaluation and possible medical treatment. These clients tend to have excess hair growth secondary to their medical condition and may find that they require both medical treatment, as well as ongoing laser treatment, in order to achieve optimum results.
4. Best results are obtained on clients who have follow up treatment immediately after hair starts to grow. For areas above the neck, (excluding eyebrows, ears and nose) this normally occurs within 4 to 6 weeks of the laser treatment, whilst for all other areas this normally occurs within 6 to10 weeks after the last treatment. Clients who leave a long period of time between treatments will not achieve optimum results.
5. Follow up treatments after completion of your laser hair removal course is imperative in order to review the effectiveness of results. A follow up treatment will be booked in 6 weeks after completion of your final treatment, where your therapist will devise a recommended maintenance plan for you

Pre-Treatment Care

1. Stay out of the sun or solariums for at least two to four weeks before your treatment, and use ENVIRON RAD SPF 15 or ASAP daily moisturizer plus sunscreen SPF30+ (sunscreen), applied hourly while you are exposed. Do not use any form of tanning throughout your treatment; this includes accidental sun exposure such as driving and daily activities.
2. Sun exposure before and after will increase the risk of complications or side effects such as pigmentation and burns.
3. Do not use self-tan/spray for one to two weeks before your treatment. The procedure may have to be postponed if you have a tan.
4. Do not wax, pluck or bleach at least two to four weeks before and during your treatment. You may shave between treatments.
5. Do not use Retin-A for two weeks prior to treatment.
6. Do not use Roaccutane for six months prior to treatment.
7. Please shave the treatment area ONE day prior to your appointment.

Post-Treatment Care

1. Apply ASAP soothing Aloe Gel to the treated area twice per day for three days.
2. Redness is common for a couple of hours to a couple of days after treatment. The redness is a natural response and usually disappears within a few hours. In some cases it can last longer, but unlikely to last more than two days. Regular application of ASAP daily moisturizer SPF 30 or ENVIRON RAD SPF 15 will dramatically improve recovery time.
3. For facial areas, ENVIRON Colostrum Gel should be applied for a couple of days after treatment. ENVIRON C – Boost or ASAP vitamin C serum can also help with reducing pigmentation and allowing a healthy glow to the skin. If applying makeup, mineral makeup is recommended to avoid further inflammation. The Jane Iredale Medical Make Up range is advised as it is 100% pure mineral.
4. Until redness has completely subsided, avoid performing activities that that cause excessive perspiration until the area has healed.
5. Avoid swimming pools and spas treated with chemicals or chlorine until the skin returns to its normal condition.
6. You may shower afterwards using luke warm water, but avoid hot showers until the skin returns to its normal skin condition. For the face, wash the treated area gently with ASAP Daily Facial Cleanser or Environ Cleansing Cream, and pat dry (do not rub). For the body, wash the treated area gently also with Environ Cleansing Cream.
7. In the unusual case of crusting, swelling of the skin, apply ASAP Soothing Aloe Gel. However, please advise us immediately. Do not pick at these areas, as this may result in infection.
8. In the rare case of an infection, a course of antibiotics is recommended. A prescription can be obtained from your local doctor.
9. Only use unscented creams or lotions whilst the area is sensitive.
10. For a period of up to four weeks after treatment, the hair in the treated area may have the appearance of stubble. This is not the new hair growth, but rather, the remnants of treated hair being expelled from the damage follicle. Begin to exfoliate the area 5 days after treatment with ASAP exfoliating body/facial scrub or ENVIRON Hydrating Body Lotion. Do this every second day to allow this hair to fall away. Stop using exfoliating 3 days before next treatment.
11. You may shave during this period. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding your laser treatments, please do not hesitate to contact SILK Laser Clinics. Important
